We've been serving the Centreville area, helping young men ages 11–17 grow into capable, confident leaders of character.

Our Troop

Leadership

Troop 17 is Scout-led with guidance from dedicated adult volunteers, all BSA-registered, background-checked, and Youth Protection certified.

The troop's primary adult leader. Runs weekly meetings alongside the other Scoutmaster and mentors the youth leadership team, while staying hands-off enough for Scouts to lead.

Leads the troop committee of adult volunteers who handle administration, fundraising, and support, so the Scout-led program can focus on outdoor adventure.

Scout Leadership Positions

Steps in for the Senior Patrol Leader and helps coordinate between patrols.

Lead their individual patrols day to day and represent them on the Patrol Leaders' Council.

Keeps troop records, tracks attendance, and takes notes at meetings.

Maintains and organizes the troop's camping and activity gear.

Keeps this website up to date for the troop.

Promotes Leave No Trace practices on campouts and outings.

Coordinates Scout's Own services and quiet reflection time on outings.

Manages the first aid kit and safety basics at troop events.

FAQ

Boys can join Scouts BSA when they complete 5th grade OR turn 11, whichever comes first. The program runs through age 17.
Not at all. We welcome all boys who are brand new to Scouting!
We hold one meeting each week and one campout per month. However, attendance at campouts and meetings is encouraged but not enforced.
Absolutely, we encourage it. Prospective Scouts can attend meetings before deciding to join. Reach out using the form below and we'll get you set up.
Eagle Scout is the highest rank in Scouts BSA, earned by roughly 4% of all Scouts. It requires 21 merit badges, a leadership position, and a community service project. Most Scouts earn it in 3–5 years of active participation.
